Ab 1978 fuhren die sogenannten „Butterschiffe“ vom Anleger in Neukirchen nach Sonderburg oder auch nach Aerö in Dänemark. Das Ende der „Butterfahrten“ bedeutete 1994 auch das Aus für die Anlegestelle Neukirchen. Heute erinnern nur noch die in den Boden gerammten Pfähle an diese kurze Zeit.
